The EXs77 "Granular Dreams 1" provides the unique sounds (approximately 1.7GB PCM) with the technique of Granlar Synthesis.
Granular synthesis, a technique already used in the 1950s, is said to find its roots in Denis Gabor’s research about communication and human perception and in Iannos Xenakis’s compositional theory for grains of sound. In fact, Xenakis sets out from the lemma that all sound, even continuous musical variation, is conceived as an assemblage of a large number of elementary sounds adequately disposed in time. In the attack, body, and decline of a complex sound, thousands of pure sounds appear in a more or less short interval of time.
Granular synthesis is well-suited for sampling based musical workstations. Unlike in conventional sampling, the sounds are composed of pieces of short samples, called grains. Grains may be layered, played at different speeds, phases, volume, frequency etc. even soundscape like, i.e. “cloudy”, sounds are conceivable. KApro focuses this library onto the granular concept of sound generation, opening novel fields of musical experiences for the KORG KRONOS. Listen for yourself!
An absolute MUST HAVE for every KRONOS user!
